Although it is said that the conventional classroom system can always work for adults, the benefits of using adult phonics in teaching adults to read are very relevant and sought after by many individuals who are willing to learn but are unable to because of various albeit commonly found reasons, including lack of time and funds.

The system of phonics has been a system of phonicsvery common method in teaching children how to read in the conventional classroom setting. It uses the concept of imitating sounds of English letters as they are spoken and associating them with the appropriate symbols in the alphabet and connecting them to pronounce words in whole. This method, however, is also effective in adults, using almost the same method but integrating features such as the voice guides that will allow adults to learn how to read without the aid of another person as teacher.

Studies have shown that the use of computer software has increased learning capacities in children, specifically in the use of phonics to teach reading. In a study where children were grouped into two and subjected to different methods in teaching reading – one with traditional classroom techniques and the other with a more liberal phonics system software – it showed that students learn by at least 15% better when they are taught with interactive software.

What does this mean in relation to the benefits of using adult phonics? Since adult phonics use software, it means that the system of teaching adults how to read with phonics is most likely to be more effective than the conventional classroom setting for adults.

Using adult phonics definitely saves time and money and is more effective in terms of teaching adults how to read. With the help of computer software, adults can make their way to independently learning how to read in the way they need to.
