Adult illiteracy is actually a lingering societal issue, especially, but not limited to many third world countries. Unfortunately, many adults are not properly equipped with the very basic skills required in order to be able to cope with societal needs. Moreover, the problem in itself might be hard to curb because adults might no longer want or is unable to go back to conventional means of education in order to learn how to read and write.

The solution today is self teaching with the help of phonics. Using phonics as an adult has become much easier because of various software and technology that aid adults in learning how to read alone.phonics with a twist

Phonics is actually one of the classic methods of teaching children how to read by connecting sounds of spoken English with the help of an English instructor. This, however, has been developed to also effectively teach adults how to read.

The system of phonics might be different in some way per software, but they share a general concept of teaching. Phonics software is coupled with automated voice guides that teach its learners the names of each letter of the alphabet and how each of them sounds. The learner then imitates each sound and slowly learns them. From there the software will slowly guide the learner in putting together the series of pronunciations of words from the individual sounds he or she has learned to derive from every letter.

This alone shows how using phonics as an adult is possible. With the help of audio and visual aids, adults will learn how to read words faster without having to attend regular classes. Although, there are many phonics systems that are being sold on the internet, each having various features answering to various individual needs, generally any system that teaches phonics will do.
