Frontline Phonics, the #1 Learn to Read Phonics Program, helps teach children to read in just 15 minutes per day. • Fun and effective way to get the right start in education • Based on blending concepts - putting letters together to sound out words - after learning only five letters. • A structured, progressive program • Multi-sensory lesson activities
Cost: Frontline phonics offers base packages for a number of different age levels that are on the high end of those reviewed, generally in the $200-250 range. Features: Frontline Phonics is one of the newer competitors in the phonics learning arena, and its goal is to present the information to students in a simpler, less elaborate manner that students will find easier to learn, and yet still can get excited about. Completion of the system would take these students to an expected early 3rd grade reading level. The Frontline system is comprised of videos, music, flash cards, and workbooks, along with a number of lesson manuals and the coaching manual, which is designed to help the teacher and or the parents guide their children through the entirety of the Frontline program. Strengths: One element that sets the Frontline Phonics program apart is their extremely simple and straightforward approach to presenting their information. Frontline does not feature nearly the number of “bells and whistles” that some of the others do. Instead, it is all about conveying the information to the student in the most straight-forward manner possible, while still keeping the student engaged. Another interesting feature of Frontline Phonics is their unique “Coaching Hotline” in which certified phonics instructors can be contacted via phone free of charge to help parents and students with any questions that they may encounter while using the program. Weaknesses: While the straightforward approach to learning that Frontline takes on can make learning simpler for many students, it does leave open he possibility that some students may in fact become bored with the concept. Also a weakness of the Frontline program is the price tag. It is without question the most expensive of the phonics program being reviewed here and, while the old adage of “You Get What You Pay For” may in fact apply, the cost may prove to be prohibitive for many working class families.
